It has been three years since I made my first trip to Ghana, and I simply cannot believe that there is no article on this website about it.
On the evening of the fifth day of April in 2016, I embarked on a trip to Accra, courtesy of my good friend, Silvia Naa Commodore. I met Silvia in Vienna, Austria the previous year when we both participated in the 2015 edition of Miss Earth as delegates from our countries.
Silvia was meant to launch her waste management project, and she invited a number of delegates from different countries for the event.
This was me that night, dressed in a short, blue Ankara dress and a pair of rubber shoes. I don’t know why I chose to wear a coat because, as soon as that journey started, it became baggage. Ghana is very, very hot. Nothing like anything I had experienced at the time.
I went through Addis Ababa, via Lagos, and finally made it to Accra. I found Silvia waiting for me. So excited!!
We stayed at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel, and I have to say, it was amazing. I was paired up with Sharon Enkromelle from Zimbabwe, and that became the beginning of a beautiful journey of friendship and great support.
Aaital Khosla from India and Shyla Angela Prasad from Fiji were present as well.
Our trip was quite busy; from radio interviews to meetings to sponsor visits. Auntie Evelyn (Silvia’s Director) and Silvia had us quite busy. I also got to meet Daisy Obeng, as she was very active in this campaign. Needless to say, I am still in touch with all these young women.
I really fell in love with Ghana during this trip. The people are courteous and mindful, the roads are smooth, and although quite hot, the hot and wet temperatures make you feel like you’re in a permanent sauna.
The most important take from this was how deeply rooted Ghanaians are in their culture. The “Buy Ghana, Wear Ghana” campaign is absolutely amazing. Most Ghanaians wear Ankara for the most days. And they look amazing. They’re proud of their African culture.
I really did have a great time in Ghana. Very much so that when Silvia asked me to come again, I did not think twice about it.
Aqua Safari Resort is still my favourite getaway! It is located in Ada Foah,on the southeast coast of Ghana. This resort is simply amazing!
What a beautiful location in all ways!!!
