Hello there, and, happy new year!
After quite a lengthy hiatus, I am more than glad to be back on my website to share more insight and some inspiration. I have come to realise that, in as much as we pride ourselves in the ability to multitask and do much at once, life can indeed get overwhelming, and a little retreat is mandatory.
Moving on swiftly, I know we all have resolutions that we made towards the end of this past year, and probably on the eve of this one. Most of us, if not all, made the resolution to achieve more, be happier, probably travel some more. Basically, everyone is looking for improvement in various sectors in life; but the common feature being that we all want to achieve set goals.
For most people, the three C’s of life are: choice, chance and change. They are mine too.
As the saying goes, you must make a choice to take a chance or your life will never change.
For anything in your life to improve, you must consciously understand the position you are in and actively pursue making a difference. You must chase the opportunities that come your way, pounce on them like your life depends on it, and run with them. You must take action.
Remember when you were in physics class and they said that “An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force”?
The same applies to life. Everything in your life will stay as it is, unless you take that chance. Unless you make the conscious decision (read: the choice) to make a difference (read: take a chance) in your life, nothing will change.
However, I have come to realise that there are some more C’s that barely get enough credit. These are:
i) Consistency
In business, the beginning feels like a blow below the belt. Everything seems to go south, for some reason. And it is true for most entrepreneurs. This is why most people focus on “breaking even” within the first few months of starting a new venture.
I have, on so many occasions, been advised to really think long and hard before pursuing business. Mainly because all of these people understand that the amount of resilience and patience it takes to successfully drive a business into high profits needs certain levels of mastery and persistence.
You must be patient. You must be persistent. And for you to achieve anything, for you to gain the right momentum, you must be consistent. The thing about this is the same as the quote I gave from your science class; that ” An object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force ”
You must be consistent. I do agree that we leave room for adjustment seeing as life can be very dynamic, but, it is also very vital to maintain your level of consistency in your area of focus. In relationships. At work. In business. In friendship. In personal development. The more you work on something, the more you learn, and the better you become at it.
ii) Courage
You must be courageous. Be bold. Be defiant. A lot of things in life demand courage, and sometimes we are barely ready to step up. But we must master the ability to stand tall and stand strong despite what we may feel inside. The fear we feel when we are not so certain about the outcome of situations. The little voices in our heads that give us all the reasons why we cannot achieve something; why we are less than; why and how we do not have the relevant skills required to achieve. We must learn to silence them. Because anything done in fear is done half-heartedly. And anything done half-heartedly lacks full potential.
Learn to be courageous. And be bold in pursuit of what sets your soul on fire.
And lastly,
iii) Choice
Nothing ever changes unless we make the decision to change it. No one ever changes unless they make the conscious decision to do so.
I do understand that it is often quite difficult to make decisions, particularly when you are blind sided. Uncertainty awakens a lot of fear in us and somehow paralyzes us; blocking us from achieving what we planned to.
However, for every decision we took too long to make, there are consequences. Sometimes those consequences are life-long. Sometimes they alter our lives; and, if we are lucky, they send us on a small detour and we manage to get back on track.
Consistency. Courage. Chance. These three C’s are the perfect recipe to achieving anything in life.
As you set out to pursue your resolutions, remember:
i) Nothing changes unless you make the decision to make a change.
ii) Consistent action creates consistent results.
iii) Fear is a reaction. Courage is a decision.
Have a blessed week!
Love, Linda..
