Have you ever sat down to think about your past and some of the things you have been through; and just say, “Thank God I don’t look a thing like what I have been through”? I do.
Each and every single person on this planet has a story. And in the same way, each person’s story is unique and different. There’s people who have been through tougher situations than others; some having gone through financial constraints, others through broken homes, others through a loveless upbringing, some through life changing events, and others through terminal illnesses.
But the beauty of it all is that from where we stand at any given time, we are far better than where we started. It is by the grace of God.
In the international scene, we have so many inspirational stories to look up to. Like Bill Gates having dropped out of University, or Oprah Winfrey having being raped at the age of fourteen, or Tyra Banks having being turned down and mocked for certain bodily features that she posses; and a myriad of very many other popular people who had a very rocky start. Now, add yourself to that list of great people.
You see, in most occasions, if not all, we have no control over the circumstances that we find ourselves in. We do not choose to be born underprivileged, we do not choose to be in broken homes, we do not choose to go through misfortunes. No one wants the worst for themselves. No one. We simply find ourselves in situations. However, there is one thing that is most important for each and every individual: “To recognize their strengths and weakness”
In the Bible, in Psalms 29:11, it is written: “God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference.”
You achieve true wisdom when you grow to understand that there are things that are beyond your control; when you learn that the only way to deal with what you are born into is to accept it, and make the most out of it. You are in a position to make yourself a success story! You stand in the same position that thousand and thousands of great and successful people have stood before. And it is solely up to you to choose what direction you want to take.
One of the things that irk me the most is when anyone plays a victim of their circumstances. The only thing that this does is sink you further and deeper into what you are trying to break away from.
You are in charge of your destiny.
You are not your parents. You are not your relatives. You are not your community. You have no obligation to lead the same life as everyone around you. You can break out of it. You can achieve your dreams. You can excel. You hold capacity to be a force to reckon with, and, nobody can take that away from you; but you.
You choose what happens next!
