They say that children are the future; and I agree. Today is The International Earth Day: a day set to celebrate and to honor Mother Earth.
Like many of my colleagues internationally, today could not go unrecognised. Therefore, I, Miss Earth Kenya 2015, teamed up with Chandaria Industries Ltd, Coca Cola, Barclays, The Standard and Premier school; thanks to my manager Leakey Odera, and we had a forum at Premier School in Parklands to talk to the students of the environmental club.
Here is my speech:
“Good Morning, Ladies and Gentlemen.
I believe that children are hope for the future. And you being here today, taking your precious time off of class to mark and to honor the Earth Day is perfect proof of that. And for that , I congratulate you and thank you for gracing our event with your presence.
I love children very much, and not just because they are adorable and innocent, but because they portray a potentially bright and better future for our country, and our beautiful planet, Mother Earth.
Their innocence makes them easy to mentor, for lack of a better phrase. Sometimes I wish that in my days I had the same opportunities as you do; a voice , the right to be heard , an audience. Because I see in you, young leaders who can and will be environmentalists. To fight for the conservation of our environment and the beatification and preservation of Mother Earth. It makes such great impact and evokes a lot of inspiration and admiration when the young stand bold and talk about environmental issues such as climate and deforestation.
So today, in honour of the Earth Day and my faith in the young and future generations, I would like to send you all out to the world to be environmental ambassadors; to fight for your right to be in a clean and healthy environment. Our wonderful Nobel peace prize winner, Prof Wangari Maathai, a worldwide and renowned environmentalist, left a very important quote for us:
“It is the little things we do that make the difference”
Therefore, do your little thing for the environment, for mother earth, and let the light of your work illuminate your path.
I will leave you with a motto that I created when I was chosen to be Miss Earth Kenya 2015:
“A Clean Environment, A Healthy You”
Thank You.”
